Homeless Services
Having worked in a variety of facilities and programs in the
San Gabriel valley area including inpatient psych hospitals,
community mental health clinics, outpatient crisis stabilization
unit, psychiatric mobile response, ACT and AB2034 programs, we
have acquired an intimate understanding of the needs of the chronically
homeless, particularly the mentally ill, in San Gabriel valley. Asked
recently on what we see as the needs of the homeless in the San
Gabriel valley, we offered the following:
The number of homeless individuals and families is rising. The
number of individuals and families at risk of becoming homeless
is rising. The machine with which to respond to these geometrically
increasing numbers is broken. In their desperate attempts
to fix the machine, hard-working, well-intentioned agencies frantically
reinvent their various wheels resulting in a lack of consistency
in service philosophy and service providers in the San Gabriel
Valley. There is currently little uniformity in service
delivery. As the agencies struggle they become increasingly
isolated. And the numbers of homeless individuals and homeless
families steadily rises.
